Satturday, 20.09.2009: Grand Prix: When Ulla and her 9years old Thuringian mare 'Wakana' (alias 'Heidi') came as the first couple into the dressage arena, the numerous spectators were in eager anticipation. The couple started the dressage test highly concentrated and they could stand this concentration until the end. With a fault-free, expressive performance with many highlights and perfect flying changes of leg the both made this ride to a highlight of this competition. Only the piaffes were still not quite even and this was the reason that the couple was ranked with 72,596% just behind Anky Van Grunsven on the 2nd place. Ulla said after the prize giving: "The 2nd place was like a felt victory with this young horse". The enthusiastic applause of the spectators confirmed her opinion.
Sunday, 20.09.2009: Grand Prix Special: Overnight it had rained torrentially. The practce area and the dressage arena were under water and Ulla had to start with a young mare in her 3rd Grand Prix Special! But here you could see Ulla's ability: Relatively unimpressed Ulla and her mare showed a performance, which convinced by absolute harmony, expression and concentration. But there were also the changes of legs... In this lessons they made some misstakes, but at the end it was the 3rd place with 70.042%. Ulla was very content with her young mare: I would never have thought that 'Heidi' goes so well in view of the adverse place conditions". I'm very glad about this placing!" The spectators were also enthusiastic and applauded very loudly at the prize giving!
Bad luck for Frank Freund and his 'Don Dior': Frank had aimed high for Donaueschingen. He started both test very hopefully, but in the Intermediare II the couple made misstakes in the gallop tour and in the Grand Prix 'DJ' was suddenly absolutly distracted and Frank had to break up this test. You could see Frank's disappointment after the test, but the couple still has a hopefull future, and his fans will cross their fingers for his future competitions!
The way home to Bad Wörishofen...
